The history on this toned Official National League, Warren Giles baseball, is enough to send even the most seasoned collectors into a frenzy, as the ball contains the blue ink signatures of Hall of Famers Jackie Robinson and Bob Feller, to legends who fought the color barrier in baseball. Feller, who organizedmuch to the chagrin of Commissioner Happy Chandlerbarnstorming events that featured players from the Negro Leagues. During one of these tours, Feller faced off against a recently signed Robinson, making remarks about Robinson’s prowess behind the plate. Though Feller clearly was into the profitable tours, his desire to showcase black players played a small part in opening up the MLB to Negro League talent by showing their play was no different than that of the white MLB. Robinson shattered baseball’s color barrier when he made his MLB debut on April 15th, 1947, for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson and Feller placed their flowing blue ballpoint pen signatures on the side panel, with Feller inscribing “Best Wishes” below his signature. Both Jackie Robinson and Bob Feller were inducted to the Baseball Hall Of Fame in 1962. This was likely signed at that event.
The ball comes with an LOA from JSA (Z31210) for the signatures and inscription.
